Music is a strange thing. We are all affected by it in different ways and have different expectations when we listen to it. Some of us want to know everything about our favorite artists including their inside leg measurement while others aren't quite so fussy and just want to have some decent and familiar music to while away the hours and hum along to. Music streaming apps have latched onto this and there are now a squillion different places to access the music that you love. Pandora is probably the oldest of the free internet music streaming services and likes to think of itself as the best way to discover new and not so new music. It's a ridiculously user-friendly way to listen to music on the web or your smartphone. You simply name an artist that you like and this clever app will serve up a veritable smorgasbord of similar sounding music for your entertainment in the form of a saveable 'radio station.' With more and more people turning to music streaming rather than the physical CDs or the radio to hear their favorite music it was inevitable that diversity of music apps would abound. Some people want to have a fully customizable and highly detailed app where they can have full control over every single track that they listen to. But some music just sounds better on the radio and that is really where Pandora has become so successful. It offers a way of listening to music without having to pick and choose specific songs. Just start off by naming an artist, genre or composer that you really like and Pandora will create a virtual radio station or an instant playlist that is based around that exact music - as well as a lot more like it. You can easily save your newly created stations as a favorite and even skip and ban artists that you don't like for a little better customization. Because of licensing restrictions you can only skip six songs per hour and per station, with a limit of 12 skips per day, total. However, there is an option to purchase individual songs that you want to keep by using the link-out agreements. The most amazing thing about Pandora is its vast catalog of music and its simplicity of use. It has been around since 1999 in one form or another so you can be assured that the brilliant algorithm technology will deliver a lot of great music - all based on your personal taste. The more you use it, the better it gets to know you. You can access Pandora through its web interface or via the very convenient and easy-to-use iOS and Android apps so you can listen to music wherever you are and whenever you want to. You will need an account if you want to use the app and create and have access to your saved playlists, however. While the app is completely free, you can easily upgrade to a Pandora One account for just under five bucks per month. This removes the ads and gives access to the desktop app with much better streaming quality. Pandora is perfect for the casual music listener and youll be surprised at how quickly it's intuitiveness taps into your musical taste. The developers have recently added a few interesting social features as well - to keep it up-to-date - and an alarm clock features to wake you with your favorite music in the morning rather than the annoying alarm.
