Shubaloo is a free live music discovery webapp. You can check who's playing in town, filter the list through tags/genres and play music from them as you browse. You can also leave it running in the background which turns it into sort of an internet radio playing only music from upcoming shows. To further personalize your experience, you can follow friends, your favorite bands and venues. You can then see, for example, all shows associated with anyone you follow, which bands you follow have shows coming up or the upcoming plans of different friends, etc. Shubaloo currently works in all large cities across North America.
