The unpaid labor of female founders — and how this puts businesses at risk

The unpaid labour of women is not new news. UN Women states: From cooking and cleaning… to taking care of children and the elderly, women carry out at least two and a half times more unpaid household and care work than men. As a result, they have less time to engage in …paid labour. Women’s unpaid work …supports economies…yet, it is rarely recognized as “work”. Unpaid work is valued to be 10 and 39 per cent of the Gross Domestic Product and can contribute more to the economy than the manufacturing, commerce or transportation sectors. As a progressive and independent… This story continues at The Next Web https://ift.tt/3dS8RxT Read full article: The Next Web

Twitch temporarily bans Trump’s channel for ‘hateful content’

On a night filled with platforms booting out controversial forums and accounts, game streaming platform Twitch temporarily banned US President Donald Trump from the platform. The Amazon-owned company said that Trump‘s account was banned for broadcasting “hateful content” on his Twitch channel. The company said the content of two streams in particular lead to the ban. The first was a rebroadcast of a 2015 rally where Trump claimed that Mexico is sending rapists to the country, and the other stream was his June 20 rally at Tulsa with racist comments. Twitch has now removed both streams. A company spokesperson told The Verge that politicians… This story continues at The Next Web Or just read more coverage about: Twitch https://ift.tt/3fS7Jvn Read full article: The Next Web

TikTok vanishes from Apple’s App Store and Google’s Play Store in India following its ban

Last night, India banned 59 Chinese apps including TikTok, Helo, and WeChat alleging that these apps steal data and send it to servers that are not located in India. Now, TikTok’s Android and iOS apps have disappeared from both Google’s Play Store and Apple’s App Store. However, several other apps including UC Browser, WeChat, Bigo Live, and Shein were still available to download on both stores. India’s IT ministry issued the press release last night, invoking section 69 of the IT ACT 2000 that gives the government power to block certain services. However, it might be hard to enforce a… This story continues at The Next Web Or just read more coverage about: Apple , Google https://ift.tt/2Icky66 Read full article: The Next Web

Amazon Prime Video rolls out Watch Party feature for movies with friends

Just a month after Hulu began testing an official ‘watch party’ feature, Amazon has decided to join the bandwagon. The company today began rolling out a beta of the feature (US-only, for now) that allows up to 100 viewers to participate in synchronized playback of a TV show or movie. Playback is controlled by the host, and there’s a chat window that participants can communicate with. And because it’s 2020 and all, you can communicate in stickers too. To start a watch party, simply head on over to the content you’d like to watch; you’ll see the watch party button… This story continues at The Next Web Or just read more coverage about: Amazon Prime , Amazon https://ift.tt/38eOKZp Read full article: The Next Web

These e-bike accessories make riding more practical, safe, and fun

Last year, I decided I would start getting around New York City on an e-bike instead of dealing with crowded public transportation and expensive cabs. It’s one of the best choices I’ve ever made. Most of that time has been spent riding a Juiced Bikes CrossCurrent X, although many were tested on a litany of other e-bikes as well. Over time, I’ve adopted several accessories to improve the riding experience, livability, and practicality of these bikes – many upgrades which I now can’t imagine living without. I’ve compiled a list of some of my favorite accessories below. I intend for this… This story continues at The Next Web https://ift.tt/3ic4Uap Read full article: The Next Web

Super-puff worlds: These Jupiter-sized planets are light as cotton candy

Astronomers once believed that most solar systems would be much like our own, with small rocky planets near their sun, accompanied by gas giants orbiting the star at greater distances. Beginning in 1992, researchers began to find worlds orbiting alien stars, and soon found solar systems came in a wide variety of formations. Today, astronomers know of more than 4,000 worlds orbiting other stars. Of these, 15 have exceedingly low densities, lower than that of cotton candy. Three of these planets — dubbed super-puff worlds — are found in the Kepler 51 star system, 2,600 light years from Earth. Larger… This story continues at The Next Web https://ift.tt/2NAtMKZ Read full article: The Next Web

The oceans of Jupiter’s moon Europa may be habitable, according to NASA

A new study of the oceans of Europa suggest oceans on that giant moon may be habitable. But is there life? The oceans of Europa may be habitable, according to a new model developed by NASA. This moon — 3,100 km (1,900 miles) in diameter — is the fourth-largest moon orbiting Jupiter. Although smaller than our own Moon, Europa is larger than Pluto. The Voyager and Galileo spacecraft revealed images and data from Europa revealing vast storehouses of water beneath the surface of the giant moon. However, the chemical makeup of these extraterrestrial oceans remains uncertain. Using information collected during… This story continues at The Next Web https://ift.tt/3dylv4M Read full article: The Next Web

Facebook will label politicians’ posts that violate its policies after all

Social media companies have always struggled to find the right balance between enabling free speech and while moderating inappropriate content. But since Donald Trump entered the White House, this debate has taken on a complicated new layer: Should private companies censor the President of the United States, even when he violates the company’s posting guidelines After years of waffling, Twitter finally began taking a stand this year, placing warning labels on misinformation and hiding (but not removing) calls for violence.  Today, Mark Zuckerberg announced Facebook would follow a similar set of rules, placing a label on content it would otherwise remove… This story continues at The Next Web Or just read more coverage about: Facebook https://ift.tt/3dCKUub Read full article: The Next Web

YouTube is targeting TikTok with a new 15-second video recording feature

Facebook and Instagram are both trying their hand at short-video platforms to rival TikTok, with Lasso and Reels. So why should YouTube feel left out? The video streaming company is now experimenting with a new feature that will let you record 15-second videos. Earlier this week, YouTube said it’s letting some people record short videos with this feature called multi-segment videos. It is rolling out the test to some users on both iOS and Android. The idea is to record 15-second clips that will eventually merge into one video. YouTube’s announcement suggested that this feature will let creators record multiple clips… This story continues at The Next Web Or just read more coverage about: YouTube https://ift.tt/2Nc5Bm2 Read full article: The Next Web
