This week in Dutch tech 20/6 – 27/6

The warm weather finally arrived! But before we begin to wind things down for the summer months, let’s catch up once more with the latest developments in Dutch tech.  Of course, in our mind, the best news from the week that passed was our own TNW Conference taking place in Zaandam, just outside of Amsterdam. (Next year we are back at one of our favourite locations at NDSM island, grab your 2-for-1 tickets now!)  This year featured some of the best keynote speakers and panellists in our 18-year history, along with rich networking opportunities and the signature festival feel that… This story continues at The Next Web https://ift.tt/LYSJ1qh Read full article: The Next Web

Data centres in space could be one solution to AI’s big energy problem

As AI boosts demand for more data storage, Europe is considering sending data centres into space — and the plan is not as outlandish as it may first appear.   A 16-month, €2 million study has concluded that space-based data centres are technically, economically, and environmentally feasible.  Thales Alenia Space and Leonardo coordinated the ASCEND study, which was funded by the EU. The research also tapped expertise from the likes of Airbus, ArianeGroup, and the German Space Agency.  “Deploying data centres in space could transform the European digital landscape, offering a more eco-friendly and sovereign solution for hosting and processing data,”… This story continues at The Next Web https://ift.tt/OCp43qZ Read full article: The Next Web

Stable Diffusion to live on: Stability AI confirms rescue deal and new CEO

Following the departure of founder and CEO Emad Mostaque in March after allegations of mismanagement and what Fortune termed an “investor mutiny,” sources close to the company reported last month that Stability AI was considering a sale. (For the record, Mostaque himself said he left to pursue “decentralised AI.”) How close they came to going through… This story continues at The Next Web https://ift.tt/C72Ojrb Read full article: The Next Web

Rocket debris falls on village following France-China satellite launch

France and China blasted a new satellite into space on Saturday, in an increasingly rare example of cooperation between a Western power and the world’s second largest economy.  The Space Variable Objects Monitor (SVOM) launched atop a Long March 2C rocket from Xichang Satellite Launch Centre in southwestern China. The probe will survey the cosmos for gamma-ray bursts, the most powerful explosions in the universe.  Beijing Time June 22, 2024 15:00: China-France SVOM satellite was launched by Long March 2C rocket from Xichang Satellite Launch Center. 118th space launch in 2024, China’s 29th, 2nd this month, 4th for Long March… This story continues at The Next Web https://ift.tt/QT5X4do Read full article: The Next Web

TNW Conference 2024: Philosophical debate for AI ethics

This year’s edition of TNW Conference is right around the corner — along with summer, we hope. We have a spectacular line-up of speakers and we cannot wait to share the special atmosphere that sets TNW apart from other tech conferences out there with you. Leading up to the event, the editorial team will be sharing some of their highlights and what not to miss from the TNW flagship conference taking place in Amsterdam on 20 and 21 of June. We hope you are as excited as we are and cannot wait to see you there. One of the sessions… This story continues at The Next Web https://ift.tt/COlWQsq Read full article: The Next Web
