It wasn't too many years ago that, if you were a musician, you could rock up to any number of pubs or bars with your instrument and find a whole bunch of other cool musicians to play or jam with. The downturn in the economy and the introduction of distractions like poker machines put paid to that in many cities around the world but there are still plenty of places where it is still possible to strap on the guitar and rock it out with the best of em. MeetMusic is a cool, free music application for iOS and Android that uses geolocalization to put musicians together again and become a reference for musos to help rekindle that live music spirit. Music is everywhere. You just have to know where to find it. MeetMusic is a great mobile app that allows musicians to see other musicians around them and helps them spot the places where its still possible to meet and have a jam. The idea for the app is that it becomes a reference app for musicians all over the world in order to spot other musicians, rehearsal rooms, open mic nights and other places where you can just jam. If you feel inspired you can interact online and suggest that you are looking to play tonight and would other like to join you. Create your message, set up the time you wanna play - lets say from 9.00pm to 10.30pm - then you can create your jam room, specify the location and see if others want to join you. If you state which songs you want to play or which genre you can play (or dance, if it comes to that) the app will find people who play (or dance) the same songs or the same genre and are willing to meet with you. Tell MeetMusic where you are we and they will suggest a rehearsal room where you can perform. MeetMusic can also be used to create a new group or project or even to find the missing member of an existing group. When you have the people and the place you can tell them why and when you wanna play or dance and you're done. It's hard to believe, but this is the only app available, that actually uses geolocalization to connect musicians. MeetMusic is a simple to use app that makes it easier to find other musicians and live music places around you. This is particularly useful if you are in a new town and just wanna find out where you can interact and play with other musicians. The fact is, music is prevalent everywhere - you've just got to find out where it is. Anything that helps put good live music back on the agenda has got to be good for me. While MeetMusic isn't particularly flashy or dripping with bells and whistles, this musician app for iPhone, iPad, iPod touch and Android is welcome in my house.
