July 31, 2014 at 04:36AM: Asus laptop running Win8 (NOT 8.1). Sometimes audio goes out. When I test my speakers it says “Being used by another device. Turn the other device off.” I can’t find the other device to turn it off. I’ve updated my drivers. It runs both the white speaker icon on the taskbar and an orange Realtek audio manager which has an orange speaker icon on the taskbar. I’ve tried turning off various services that say audio in the task manager, but the only way to get my audio back and the “in use by another device” message not to pop up is to restart or reboot. I can’t find what’s causing it to go off. Sometimes my MagicJack works with the USB headset, but when I manually switch back to laptop speakers and test, I get no audio and the “use by another device” message. I thought MagicJack was the culprit, but when I safely remove the USB device I still can’t get my audio back. Usually it will switch on and the BIOS screen followed by a dual boot screen will come up, but it will not actually boot into any system. July 30, 2014 at 02:47PM: I have been using Windows Live Mail for some time. It worked in Vista and Windows 7. I have now installed it on a Windows 8.1 computer. I use storage folders to keep my e-mails so I can back them up and keep them off the e-mail servers. Recently WLM came up with all my folders in a “Recovered Items folder”. I now have a bunch of e-mail that WLM cannot read properly. I’ve used Notebook and Microsoft Office Word and they read the e-mails just fine. It looks to me that WLM has lost the file structure of these unreadable e-mails. Has anyone seen this and can suggest a solution? July 29, 2014 at 08:02PM: I’m using an Samsung Galaxy S5, G900i (Android 4.4.2, build number KOT49H, G900iztu1ane3). All phone book entries begin with +country code because I travel. It’s brand new, and works perfectly other than the following: When I receive a call, if it happens to be a local call without the +65, no ID will be shown. It will show the number (so it’s not a service provider caller ID issue). I’ve reset my phone but that didn’t help. There are no apps on this phone that weren’t on my S4 (which worked fine). My previous S5, 900H, worked fine too. It’s not in the phone book settings or anything. If I rename a phone book entry and delete the +65, then when that person calls their name will show up.
